Does a Garmin GPS Work in New York City Manhattan? or Will the Buildings Interfere With the Reception?

I am thinking about getting a GARMIN nĂ¼vi GPS for a trip to New York City. I am wondering if this type of device will work in Manhattan. I am concerned that the tall buildings will interfere with the reception.

It shouldn’t be a problem if you do find it to be a problem you could turn to a smartphone GPS. These can work by triangulation from cell towers.
